Privacy policy

Cloud processing for captions and AI features. No account required. No sale of personal data.

1. What this policy covers

This policy explains how uTranslate Live processes information when you use the extension and this website. uTranslate is the operator. For privacy or support questions, contact utlive@mail.utranslate.net.

2. Information we process

Audio, captions and questions

When you enable live recognition, audio from the selected browser tab is detected and encoded locally, then sent to our cloud service for speech recognition and translation. Existing video captions, nearby sentences and the page title may be sent for translation, correction, term explanations, formatting and summaries. Questions and relevant caption context are sent to answer your questions. When web search is used, the search query and necessary question text are sent to the search service.

History and usage records

Caption history, translations, AI results and video metadata can be stored on your device for review, search and export. After your consent, original and translated captions, AI results, questions, the captioned page URL and title, language settings, playback information and usage events are also sent to our service to improve the disclosed caption and understanding features and their reliability. These records concern captioned pages, rather than your complete browsing history. Most URL query parameters and fragments are removed; video identifiers such as YouTube’s video ID may remain.

Installation and connection information

A random installation identifier, consent and extension versions, access credentials and necessary request metadata support access without an account, security, rate limiting and diagnostics. The server stores a hash of the refresh token. Hosting and network infrastructure processes connection information, including IP addresses. Service notices may be requested before you consent to using cloud features, which also produces basic connection metadata.

We do not require your name, email address, payment details, contacts or precise location to use the extension. Audio, captions, questions and page information you choose to process may contain personal or sensitive information. A random installation identifier does not make this content anonymous.

3. Service providers and sharing

We use and share information to provide and improve the extension’s disclosed purpose, maintain security and comply with legal obligations. Data may be processed in countries other than your own through these services.

We do not sell personal data, use it for personalized advertising, provide it to data brokers, or use it for creditworthiness or lending. uTranslate does not use cloud captions, questions or usage records to train models.

4. Storage and retention

Local history remains on your device until you delete it or clear the relevant browser data. Our retention policy for cloud captions, questions and usage records is no more than 30 days, including copies of those records in infrastructure logs, caches and backups. This is uTranslate’s retention commitment; it does not mean the extension provides an automatic cloud-deletion control.

Installation identifiers, consent records and the stored refresh-token hash support continued access and are retained while the installation remains registered with our service. You can request removal by email. Uninstalling the extension does not notify the server to delete these records. Connection and security metadata is processed by our hosting providers for service operation and security; the 30-day limit applies when those records contain captions, questions or usage records.

The application does not offer an audio archive. Audio is transmitted for recognition; this should not be understood as a guarantee that every processing or logging layer retains nothing.

5. Your controls and deletion requests

You can turn captions off, pause local history saving, delete individual or all local history, export saved history, or uninstall the extension. These controls affect local history; they do not delete previously uploaded cloud records or undo cloud processing.

For access, correction or deletion requests, email utlive@mail.utranslate.net. Include the relevant installation identifier if available and a description of your request so we can establish which records belong to you. We may need additional information to verify the request. Do not send access or refresh tokens. We will respond in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements.

Incognito windows do not save local caption history or upload caption-session snapshots. Recognition, translation and AI features still require cloud processing.

6. Security and limited use

Production connections use HTTPS or WSS. Access to raw user content is limited to what is needed to operate the service. Human reading is restricted to your explicit consent for specific content, necessary security investigations, legal requirements, or aggregated and anonymized internal operations.

uTranslate’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Information is used only for the disclosed purpose and the permitted related operational purposes.

7. This website and contact messages

This website does not add analytics scripts, advertising trackers or cookies. Cloudflare handles necessary connection and security information when serving the pages. If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include and use them to handle your request.

8. Policy updates and contact

We will update this page when our practices change, with prominent in-product notice and renewed consent where required. The date above identifies this policy version. For privacy, data-rights or support questions, contact utlive@mail.utranslate.net.
